| Influences: My personal influences include world mythology, religion, Nature, faerylore, legend, shamanism, folklore, as well as the influences from various other artists. I am particularly enamored with the Art Nouveau movement, Renaissance portraiture, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, the Symbolists, the Surrealists, Japanese woodblock prints, as well as more contemporary artists like Susan Seddon Boulet, Alan Lee, Brian Froud, John Jude Palencar, Dave McKean, Yoshitaka Amano, and others. My own spirituality also provides me with a wealth of inspiration. • High-quality prints and postcards of my work are available at my Print Shoppe • |
| Style: Â After considering various general terms to describe my art or to place it within the confines of a certain category or genre, I have found that the designation 'mythopoetic/mythopoeic' best describes my approach. Most of the time, I am quite aware of the mythological references in my work, and it is largely a conscious and deliberate choice that such references are made. However, even when I do not strive to make specific references, it is primarily through mythology, legend, and symbolism that I relate to the images I create. At times, my art could acceptably carry the title of 'fantasy,' 'anthropomorphic,' etc. but these designations feel much more limiting to me. Although in all truth, I would have to agree with Ben Shahn when he stated that "I believe that if it were left to artists to choose their own labels, most would choose none." |
